What Four Shires History offers

Explore a village or landscape in ways that focus on participants as much as on stories from history.

  • see key attractions of a place in about two hours
  • connect with past cultures and their natural setting
  • meet others with similar interests
  • share and question what you see
  • learn skills to increase enjoyment of other places

One to one help with investigating historical roots or understanding heritage. For example, how to:

  • identify aims and achieve them
  • develop relevant research skills
  • assess a place’s tourist potential
  • appreciate context: landscape, social, etc
  • write up research in ways that engage readers

History presentations with a focus on local people, happenings and landscapes. Organisers can:

  • negotiate a topic or event to suit the audience
  • choose a style between academic and entertaining
  • agree how to balance information with interaction
  • consider looking at a contemporary issue through an historical lens

Participate in a small group where people achieve a desired outcome through a fusion of information, fun and networking. For example:

  • learn how to use stories to engage with people and current issues
  • discuss ways to interpret landscapes, pictures or objects
  • evaluate different kinds of evidence through a case study
